Meet the Trainer: Erin Duffy
Erin Duffy grew up in the saddle in Los Angeles, starting her competitive career at age 13 under trainer Judy Martin — winning the L.A. County Finals and CPHA Finals, and finishing runner-up in the USET Final to Olympic rider Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum. After a standout junior career, Erin turned professional, working under Mary Tyng at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center before heading to Europe to ride for Jan Tops, Olympic gold medalist, and for Stephex Stables in Belgium — one of the sport's top importers of international show jumpers.
Back in the U.S., Erin trained and competed at Newmarket Stables in Del Mar, developing horses to national and year-end championship level, ranking multiple times in the top 3 for World Champion Hunter Rider, and piloting horses in the Grand Prix ring up to 1.50m. In 2010, she launched Erin Duffy Show Stables in the Los Angeles area, where she now trains a program of 25–30 horses spanning riders from Walk-Trot to the 1.30m jumpers, competing throughout Southern California as well as at Pony Finals, Devon, Capital Challenge, Washington International, and the National Horse Show.
Her program has produced jumper champions like Kir Royal, Niagara, Lionel, and Cavalier Knight, and hunter champions including Rumba, Ipsylon, Enchanted, Falcao, and Romeo — a track record that reflects the level of detail built into every part of the training program, right down to the equipment in the ring.
